Wood-fired bistro · Portland, Oregon
Cooked over oak,
served with patience.
A small neighborhood kitchen built around one twelve-foot oven. Blistered sourdough, ember-roasted vegetables from farms up the valley, and a short wine list that loves Oregon.

Our story
A fire that never quite goes out.
Ember & Oak started as a borrowed oven at a Saturday market: one flatbread, one chalkboard, and a line around the block. Today it lives in a former print shop on Alder Street, where the oven is lit at noon and fed Oregon white oak until the last plate goes out.
We cook simply and on purpose. Vegetables get the same care as the ribeye, bread is proofed for two days, and the menu shifts every few weeks with whatever the valley is proud of.
-
Local farms
Produce, grain and meat from eleven farms within ninety miles. We name them on the chalkboard every night.
-
Oak-fired oven
A hand-built dome that holds 900°F at the floor. Almost everything on the menu passes through it.
-
Seasonal menu
Rewritten every few weeks. When the peaches are gone, so is the peach dessert, and that’s the point.
